It started to look like Danelle’s friends were once again going to ignore her death in 7de laan – but then Charmaine acknowledged her.
Mind you she also mentioned how the coffee shop smelt like blood still. Which makes Ntabi and Paula’s cheerful little meeting a meter or so from Oppiekoffie yesterday even worse.
Charmaine asked Matrone why Danelle? “She was such a good child. Gentle and loving.” “Her life hardly started.”
Bernard was shown in the Deli reading about Danelle’s shooting in the Hillside Times when Diederik walked in. He mentioned that the funeral is going to be in Wolmaranstad. During the episode we also found out that two people were killed – Danelle and a policeman.
Diederik suggested he and Bernard would take Danelle’s things with them to her family when they drove there for the funeral.
It was mentioned that a memorial service would be organised in 7delaan. Bernard said his mother was on her way back. And as usual would take over everything.
After Bernard left Diederik told Vince that Danelle was very special and that he would miss his cousin.
Back at the flat Pulane and Kim were packing Danelle’s belongings to send to her parents. Kim was her usual crass self wanting to take one of Danelle’s tops. Pulane was horrified.
Kim and Pulane then reminisced about their friend talking about how a wonderful friend she was. Ntabi the other roommate was no where to be seen. In fact she mentioned her hot date with Dali the previous evening to Paula.
When Bernard arrived at home his mother, Linda was there. She said she was thinking about what he’s going through. She said she understands what he’s going through.
Bernard wasn’t having any of that. He told her not to pretend to care. He told Linda that he had proposed to Danelle before the robbers walked in.
He told his mother:
that she would’ve accepted Danelle just the way she was if she understood.
Danelle made him happy and his mother didn’t give her a chance. And now it’s too late.
She will never get to know the amazing person Danelle was.
He told her that thanks to her Danelle’s last days were miserable and he’ll never forgive his mother for that.
Linda apologised saying she was wrong not to trust his judgment. Then she asked Bernard to tell her about Danelle.
Bernard told her Danelle was wonderful. She was gentle, loving, sincere. With not a bad bone in her body. Everyone liked her. He said she was everything he wanted in a girl.
The one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with…he knew they could be happy together but now she’s gone forever.
Suddenly his life feels empty, without purpose.
He told his mother that doesn’t know he can go on without Danelle.
Wow!Werner Coetser was so good in this entire scene! You could feel Bernard’s sense of loss. I don’t think it would’ve worked as well if he spoke about his grief to anyone other than his mother. Because the rest of the people in 7de laan make everything about themselves. In fact no one seems to have bothered to visit Bernard yet. Diederik said he meant to…
Also you could see how really limited and one-note the ranges of these actors are. Except for Bernard, Linda, Sonja and Charmaine the actors couldn’t seem to portray any sense of emotion. Some of them looked like they tried…that’s all I can say about their efforts.
